Course Information:
The Triple Crown Half-Marathon starts at 7:30 AM. A scenic 13.1-mile nature frolic through WCCSP and White Clay Preserve. Course fords White Clay Creek at miles 3 and 10. At least 6 water/aid points. Registration: $40, includes runnin' dawg mug to the first 100 finishers, t-shirts for pre-registered runners. Half-marathon awards ~9:50 AM. The Trail Triple Crown is run in Delaware's White Clay Creek State Park, which spans about 3,300 acres extending from the Pennsylvania border into the city limits of Newark, DE. The entire park includes about 50 miles of trail, including sections of the 192-mile Mason-Dixon Trail, through the White Clay Creek and Middle Run watersheds. Terrain is moderately hilly mixed hardwood forest interspersed with streams and upland meadow. Trails are mostly single-track with short sections of dirt road; only a couple of hundred feet of pavement (road crossings).
All races start and finish near the pavilion at the W.S. Carpenter Recreation Area of White Clay Creek State Park. The park entrance is on Rt. 896 (New London Road) on the right, about two miles north of downtown Newark, after the Wedgewood Road intersection. The fee season for DE State Parks has been extended, so race parking is no longer free. Out-of-state vehicles: $6; DE vehicles: $3.
The half-marathon course is a sequence of four trail loops all run counterclockwise, linked by short out-and-back trail connectors. The course starts and finishes on the same trails as the 5K and 10K. Since the loops are run counterclockwise, you will turn right at every marked trail junction. (Sounds easy, but if you don't pay attention you'll probably get lost.) The course crosses White Clay Creek at mile 3 outbound and mile 10 inbound. Elevation range: 90-350 ft.
The marathon course is two circuits of the half-marathon course, run in the same direction as the half-marathon. On narrow trail, marathoners should yield to runners in other races. Elevation range: 90-350 ft.
