Thanks to everyone for making the 2008 Lost Dutchman Marathon the best ever! Read what our participants have to say 2008 Lost Dutchman Marathon Feedback, and visit the online 2008 race picture gallery. Official results from 2008 are posted at Raceplace Events. The first 6 miles of the Lost Dutchman Marathon are run on a well groomed dirt road called Peralta Trail (above). Despite what you may have read or heard there are no trails on the marathon course. As you can see in this picture it is wide and relatively smooth. It is closed to vehicular traffic so dust is not a problem. In 2008 we had a very unusual event; it rained hard up until Friday morning at 2 AM. The county worked all day Friday and Saturday scraping the road to make it “runable.” There were 4 minor trickles that the marathoners crossed in the first 2 miles, but due to the road being decomposed granite no one got mud on their shoes. I talked to numerous runners after the event who said they didn’t even get their shoes wet. Weather is not controllable; however our climate being what it is we do not expect another event such as we had in 2008 for several years.
