The Goal of the Fort Worth Marathon is to build after-school programs.
Steve Looney, race director, came up with the idea to host a marathon to help get Fort Worth kids in shape when he saw an article that included Fort Worth as one of three Texas cities on a list of the United States’ fattest cities. Looney sees targeting childhood obesity as the best preventive measure. His goal is to get the kids off the couch and teach them to run!
His vision also includes the "Run Like a Cheetah" program where Looney has world-class athletes working with him in after school running programs. With the help of these athletes, Looney hopes kids will decide to become more active.
