Buzz Marathon
Course Information:
We will see the 10th anniversary of this great meditative run through the hills and meadows of historic Camp Roberts Army National Guard Reservation in north San Luis Obispo County along the fertile Salinas River Valley. Marathon and half marathon to begin at 8:30 AM, 6:30 for walkers, 8:45 for 5k.
Starting at 750' above sea level the course goes out and back rising to 1250'; most of the climb between miles 4 and 6. It is quiet and serene with wildlife spectators, a flock of sheep, spectacular views, training and research sites, aid stations every 2 miles and porta potties every 3 miles. About Buzz Marathon
SO WHAT IS THIS ABOUT?
Revenue from Buzz Marathon helps fund the athletic programs at Lillian Larsen Elementary School of Kindergarten to 8th grade students. Larsen features cross country and track and field for all children, then flag football, volleyball, basketball, and golf for the middle schoolers grades 6 to 8.
Buzz Marathon is a Active and Healthy Lifestyle promotion fundraiser for the athletic program at Lillian Larsen School in San Miguel. This is a low income rural school district and funds are used to cover entry fees, uniforms, referees, equipment, field and course markings, physicals, and when possible scholarships to summer camps for high school bound students to get noticed on entry.
WEATHER
Moderate February climate upper 50’s to mid 60’s by day and upper 30’s to low 40’s overnight. Average annual rainfall is less than 15? - low relative humidity.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
All races are run on the grounds of Camp Roberts, just north of San Miguel, California. Out-and-back course on paved road with dirt and packed gravel shoulders. Flat to gentle rolling hills, with breathtaking views of oak-studded hillsides, Salinas and Nacimiento Rivers and abundant Central Coast wildlife. Start line is at 750' and rises to 1250' between mile 4 and 6.
PARKING
Parking is on the right, single line facing the street and overflow is to the left in an open lot. We are headquartered in building #2021.
AWARDS
T-shirt and finisher dog tag to all participants. Medals in gender and age group categories, trophies to first place male and female in marathon, 1/2 marathon, 5K and Children’s (under age 12) Mile. Door prize drawings courtesy of San Miguel area wineries and merchants. Trophy to first alumnus in the marathon.
COURSE TOUR
A course tour will be available at 4:00pm (1600 base time) - a good chance to get parking/security taken care of before race day.
