The Fargo Marathon is best described as Flat, Fast, Friendly & Fun….emphasis on Friendly & Fun!!
In 2009, our event will fall on the weekend of May 8th – 9th. The location for everything is the FargoDome (www.fargodome.com). Here is where you will pick up packets, register, eat pasta & lefse, take in our terrific expo, listen to awesome speakers, start the race and finish the race! This is one large loop of a race, so no “point to point” event, no long bus rides. There is plenty of parking and seating for all participants and spectators.
You’ll start outside of the FargoDome, but you’ll finish inside the Dome under the Jumbotron Video Monitors….yes, it’s your chance to show thousands that YOU DID IT! Marathon & ½ Marathon
Starting at the Fargodome, the marathon and half marathon courses are a beautiful loop tour through Fargo and neighboring Moorhead, MN.
University Drive is where it all begins….North Dakota State University is your first “welcome” to Fargo, and it only gets better as you pass through North Fargo neighborhoods and ultimately the memorable Broadway Stretch through historic downtown Fargo. Make sure you say “hi” to the folks at the Fargo Theater. Then, you will wind your way to the INFAMOUS TREE-LINE AND FAN FILLED neighborhoods along 8th street in South Fargo.
As you continue to head south, you’ll have to take a mulligan at the classic Fargo Country Club before you jump on to the Old Milwaukee Bike Trail. This trail will bring you down to your 3rd golf course of the day…..Rose Creek. A wonderful trail and beautiful homes greet you before you turn and head north.
As you wind your way back North, take in the peaceful setting of River Drive and Harwood Groves before making your way to Lindenwood Park.
Before you know it, you’ll be crossing over the Red River and into Moorhead, Minnesota via the AWESOME Main Avenue Bridge…..truly a scene you will not forget!
As you cross into Minnesota and our sister city, Moorhead, you’ll have a chance to “compare campuses” as you get to see our latest addition to the Fargo Marathon….Minnesota State University – Moorhead. That’s right, the Dragons of MSUM have been waiting to cheer on runners for 4 years…..now it’s time! Of course, not to be outdone, your next leg of the marathon is a visit to what has become a staple of this event…..Concordia College. Who said this was a College Town? Oh yeah….it is a College Town! After the Concordia visit, you will wind your way to the Red River again and enjoy a tremendous stroll through Moorhead’s Woodlawn Park. Wave to the other runners above as they cross that Main Avenue Bridge you just conquered!
